(Scottsdale, AZ)…On Veteran’s Day, we take time to pay tribute to those who risked life and limb in defense of our country. For sports purists, it’s hard to believe that E-Sports participants are actually referred to as "athletes" these days. More accurately, they are "gamers;" and, they generally lead extremely sedentary lifestyles. Earlier this month, a patient came to see Dr. Sham Vengurlekar, complaining of excruciating back pain. This patient had been turned away from two hospitals, each of which said he had “muscle spasms.” They had missed a critical and potentially life-threatening injury.
Dr. V did not dismiss this patient’s pain complaint. He completed a manual exam and three MRIs, only to discover that this patient had a fractured vertebrae and spinal infection. Within two hours, Dr. V admitted this patient to the hospital. The patient had spine surgery the following morning at dawn with IV antibiotics. He was on the verge of complete paralysis from a cord compression, caused by epidural abscess.
“I met Dr. Vengurlekar at a charity golf tournament in Scottsdale recently. When I heard about his pain management practice, I was extremely impressed. Having played in the NFL for 14 years, I know many former players who suffer from chronic pain. I applaud the efforts of Dr. V and Premier Pain Institute to use minimally invasive procedures to alleviate pain and avoid major surgery or long-term use of painkillers.”
“Believe me…when you play baseball, you learn the names of ALL the shoulder injuries – rotator cuff tendinitis, bursitis, subluxation, impingement…you name it. Another thing you learn is to avoid surgery if at all possible. Recovery time is extensive, and return to peak performance is difficult. So, I would definitely recommend the minimally-invasive procedures offered by Premier Pain Institute. They enable a more rapid, natural recovery.” – Junior Spivey, former Arizona Diamondbacks All Star and World Series Champion

Although many praise the benefits of “free” Canadian healthcare, the wait times can be extremely lengthy. Rather than wait for service, many Canadians prefer to receive immediate care in the U.S., and then apply for partial reimbursement from single-payer Canadian healthcare plans.
In just Week Two of the NFL season, three top quarterbacks are out of commission with injuries – one of these quarterbacks for the entire season.
