Sympathetic Nerve Blocks

When it is necessary to numb branches of nerves versus a specific area, nerve blocks are often the best answer. Types of nerve blocks include Stellate Ganglion Blocks and Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks.

Stellate Ganglion Block

It is sometimes necessary to treat a number of problems linked to the nerves in the neck. For instance, after surgery or injury, a patient can sometimes develop Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) of the upper arm, forearm and hand. In this case, the doctor may recommend a Stellate Sympathetic Ganglion Nerve Block. This injection numbs a specific branch of nerves in the neck called the Sympathetic Nerve; and, more than one injection may be required to treat the problem. The patient may also need Radio Frequency Rhizotomy for long lasting pain relief.

Lumbar Sympathetic Block

It is sometimes necessary to treat a number of problems linked to the nerves in the back. For instance, after surgery or injury, a patient can sometimes develop Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) of the upper thigh, leg and foot. In this case, the doctor may recommend a Lumbar Sympathetic Ganglion Nerve Block. This injection numbs a specific branch of nerves in the leg called the Sympathetic Nerve; and, more than one injection may be required to treat the problem. The patient may also need Radio Frequency Rhizotomy for long lasting pain relief.
