Dr. Vengurlekar, after careful evaluation of his patients, formulates a plan of treatment which may comprise of one or more of the interventions. These include, but are not limited to the following: epidurals, selective transforaminal root sleeve injections, injections of the facet joints and nerves of the spine, neural blockade of the sympathetic tracts, complex cranial nerve blocks, major joint injections, blocking of peripheral nerves, discography procedures, intra disc procedures, radio frequency thermal lesioning of neuronal tracts carrying pain signals, cryotherapy, implantation of intrathecal catheters for spinal infusions, implantation of spinal cord stimulators, etc.
Patients are instructed by Dr Vengurlekar and his staff about each of these procedures, when indicated for any particular patient. Almost all of the procedures are performed under an x-ray camera so that a direct visualization of the particular targeted area is possible, and precise and specific procedures can be performed with minimum amount of medications. Some of these medications may include a combination of a local anesthetic, usually with a very tiny quantity of a locally acting anti-inflammatory agent. The importance of injecting such small amounts of medications minimizes potential side effects and complications that can arise.
Most patients request twilight sleep for their procedures and it is for this reason that Dr. Vengurlekar conducts a thorough evaluation of patients to determine appropriateness for intravenous sedation during their initial consult. Patients who choose IV sedation undergo diligent and meticulous monitoring to ensure safety and excellent care under direct medical supervision of Dr. Vengurlekar. Dr. Vengurlekar stays in constant touch with both the patient and the patient's vital signs and adjusts the dose of medication required for twilight sleep, as appropriate. The patients are then observed for an appropriate period after the completion of the procedure and before they are discharged. All patients need transportation and a companion, as stipulated in the instructions given in detail to each patient.
